Robin van Persie's mind drifts back seven summers. He's on the streets
of Kralingen, a suburb of Rotterdam, his home town. "It happened one
time that it was really busy," the Arsenal striker recalls, "and
everyone from all the other districts had come. Everyone. And we had a
really good team because I'd brought over two players from the
Feyenoord youth team. And another very good player from the streets,
who I knew, and we had a fantastic goalkeeper. We won all day long. All
day. I'll never forget it."

It would be interesting to see how many years the players of Northern California Clubs have spent in their present club and how many are transfers from other clubs. There was the transfer of almost two entire teams from River City Soccer CLub to San Juan Soccer Club last year. This affected players and teams in San Juan and River City. Of course, there are many clubs around the world who practice this sort of youth development - buying or taking players away from other clubs - but there are also many clubs who are known for developing the talents of their own youngsters such as Ajax, Chivas, Atalanta, and West Ham.
