Due to their lack of a background in soccer they have passed many rules
severely restricting the more serious soccer people and clubs of the
necessary flexibility required for player education.
USSF has have allowed USYSA and AYSO to fulfill their responsibility of
running leagues. USYSA is divided into state associations many of whom
offer soccer for 3-4 months a year – for most of its players. Soccer
has become, for most players, something they fit in between baseball
and basketball.

Progress must come in Northern California
Given the tremendous dropout rates in CYSA, the lack of success at
developing players and the totally backward mindset found in many CYSA
run leagues it is time for competitive clubs to break free of the
shackles set up by CYSA decades ago.
Competitive Youth Soccer Clubs in the United States must develop their
own grassroots programs for recreational players. If they begin in Spring 2007 with a local Recreational Spring League sanctioned by US
CLub Soccer they can insure they have a healthy base of players for
their competitive teams. If their club can provide a suitable league
for recreational players they can move into the fall season as well.
Competitive clubs - start your own grassroots league! Contact US Club Soccer for sanctioning and begin one this spring. You do not have to compete with CYSA, plan around them - it is you duty to soccer and your club!
