MLS OKs 'Beckham Rule' to attract superstar players

The "Beckham Rule" will give MLS teams the authority to acquire players outside the $2 million-per-team salary cap, which will be "significantly" increased to accommodate the new policy, MLS deputy commissioner Ivan Gazidis said.

The Oakland A's took the first step toward resurrecting the Earthquakes on Wednesday, celebrating the opening of the soccer operations office at the Fairmont San Jose with a few hundred fans. The A's in May purchased a three-year exclusive option to field an expansion team in the Bay Area.

SCPSU U16 boys team has landed Clowhindo the fourteen year old wunderkid for Sao Paulo Football Club. Clowhindo was sought after by AC  Milan, ManU, Barca and Chelsea but SCPSU won out with the deep pockets created by the telecom boom. The move will be sponsored by an unnamed Silicon Valley Executive.

I don’t think that MLS fans should demand quality from their teams merely because they’re paying customers, but because they’re fans of the game as well as the team. People who love soccer should want to see good soccer. The idea that soccer in the U.S. is so weak that any negative reaction to it will destroy it is another thing I don’t agree with. I’m also not of the camp that thinks MLS teams are incapable of good soccer –
 
MLS launches Youth Development Initiative

"Today Major League Soccer charts new territory among major professional sports leagues in the United States by launching a youth development initiative that allows teams to acquire, outside of the annual draft, top young players from their respective local areas. Ultimately, this initiative will enhance the quality of young players entering the League and allow more of them to represent their hometown teams."
