Nicol and Kinnear - A Notch Above The Rest
Category: Professional on 10 Nov 2006
Nicol, a true players' coach, probably wanted to see both players satisfied personally. But placating an individual's career aspirations is not his top priority. Rather, his job is to produce a winning soccer team.

Five teams to watch in the NCAA tourney
Category: College on 10 Nov 2006
So it begins. The NCAA Tournament is under way. Forty eight of 199 teams remain. Although 48 is definitely a more manageable number to follow, I understand how it still could be a little overwhelming to some people.

"Soccer Programs Lose Sight Of Kids"

An old but good article written by a man whose father helped build Ballistic. He coached every U10 team for many years - during which Ballistic dominated the Northern California and beyond. The articles brings up some interesting points facing many clubs. What do you do when a team wants to move to your club? Who should get credit for the development of the players in these situations? There are clubs who have built their name off of situations like this but how do they do when they cannot recruit? How are they with developing the players from within their club? Do they have the ability to develop players? Do they let the public know the state, regional or national championship is due to the players taken from another club? Should clubs list the names of their older players along with the number of years spent in their club and the number of year spent in other clubs.  In any case enjoy.....

"An International Plot to Stop Our Development"

Karl Dewazian and he is serious........?

"The world is becoming aware of the emergence of a 'sleeping giant'. They realize that with our resources and size it is only a matter of time that is keeping us from attaining our rightful place at the top of the soccer world. The space for the World Cup trophy has already been cleared away at the Soccer House in Chicago. Yet, they are stopping us with a 'secret weapon' that even a Batman foe would view with envy. They are infiltrating us with a 'training virus."

The CYSA Leader quoted from Karl Dewazian's Fundamental Soccer Web Site:

" Moving beyond the laws of the game and rules that govern it, I would pose the following queries: How do you know a player was taken down from behind? Do you know what the requirements for that foul actually are? Do you have any training and meaningful experience with officiating? Were you the assessor assigned to these games? Were you better suited and situated to see the action than the referee? Just the physics and mechanics of the game of soccer, the differing positions of people in relation to the field and play, and the dynamics of what is happening in a game would strongly suggest that the answers are in the negative."

Are USYSA or CYSA serious about soccer?

"Football associations that are serious about the game's health and growth are duty-bound to promote mass participation and interest," Roxburgh said. "Grassroots football, which acts as a vehicle for social integration, health and happiness, is the aim. As a by-product, talents will emerge.

"Constant development of the game is imperative, and the foundation of all football growth and advancement lies in the grassroots," he added.

"We don't like to kick and run. We like to possess the ball ... looking to attack," coach Dominic Kinnear says. "The people wouldn't keep on coming out here unless the team was good. Playing soccer the right way — with skill, determination, hard work and commitment — is what these people like."

While Pipe received credit both for making Canada the host of FIFA's Under-20 tournament and bringing the next MLS expansion team to Toronto (and building its new stadium), the decision to remove him has come "20 years too late," says former national team player Bob Iarusci, who says "the game up here has been set back 25-30 years" by "the British mafia" who've instilled "no structure, no leader, no passion, no vision.

" The only loser in this environment is the player"
Category: Youth Soccer on 08 Nov 2006

This email came to me this morning from Gregg Thompson of Placer United  - I asked him for permission to post this on the Far Post Report. He agreed. Here is his letter which, we believe, could apply to many areas in the state and probably the country.

Dear Administrators, Coaches, Parents,

This confrontational escalation between San Juan and Placer is getting out of control.  San Juan decides to boycott the Placer girls tournament, Placer plans to boycott the Cal Cup Tournament, clubs are not re-scheduling games to accommodate one another...it's getting worse and worse.   We are all pleased with ourselves for retaliating and "one upping" the opposing club's coaches, teams and administrators but the only loser in this environment is the player.  As was said in an earlier email, "aren't we all in this for the players?"

Know Your Limitations and Use Them as Strengths

Play Hard, Play to Win, Have Fun

You must teach your team to play hard, no matter who the opponents are, because you're setting your own standards, playing toward goals you want the team and each player to achieve. Your players must learn that the best respect they can give opponents is to play to win, to show them their best.

Player Development for Girls’ and Women’s Soccer by Tony Dicicco
Category: Youth Soccer on 08 Nov 2006
"In America, we have established through hard work, inspired play and success at the highest level, an expectation of excellence on the female side of the game.  During my term as US Women’s National Team coach, our motto was “win forever”.  Some may consider such lofty goals as frivolous or unattainable.  I prefer, however, to compare it to the Brazilian men, considered, by virtually all the experts, to be the best soccer team on the planet.  The citizens of Brazil clearly want and expect their team to win every match and every competition and, therefore, the Brazilian male players must train to live up to those expectations. "Comparing High School and Club Soccer"
Category: Youth Soccer on 07 Nov 2006
"No matter when the high school season takes place, conflicts between club and high school teams seem inevitable. Some players even skip the high school season to play with their club teams on a year-round basis; other players may spend the week with their high school teams, but play in games and tournaments with their club teams on the weekend."

"The Youth Soccer Column: Free Market Soccer"

If placing professionals at every level of soccer seems far-fetched, consider what is in place now. Most coaches and administrators involved in youth soccer are unpaid volunteers. Unfortunately, even some of the most enthusiastic coaches simply do not have the background and experience to connect with our youngest players and teach them the skills they need at a critical time in their soccer development.
