Clarence is back - Oranje!
Category: Professional on 14 Nov 2006
In his Zen-like interviews Seedorf comments on the coach's disregard towards him were always polite and patient, saying how he respected Van Basten in making his own choices and how big a player he was. In a recent poll almost 75% wanted to see Seedorf back in the squad.

Hey Coaches.....Want to skip your "D" license...? Sort of....
Category: Youth Soccer on 14 Nov 2006

Coaches Education is very important. Every coach should be committed to constant education - especially if you are paid. Coaching courses are one way of obtaining your education. Most people believe you have to go through the CYSA state courses to get to the USSF National Courses. This is not true.

You can actually skip the CYSA " D " course by taking the NSCAA National Diploma . After completing the NSCAA National Diploma you can continue in their courses but you can also get a waiver into the USSF "C" and depending on your playing experience even the USSF "B" course.   The highest course is the USSF " A" license but no waivers are granted for that course.

What a question.........." Why play football? "
Category: Youth Soccer on 14 Nov 2006

This is posted on the UEFA( European Governing Body for Soccer- Football) web site. We could not have expressed it better:

Why play football? "Watch children playing the game and the reasons will be self-evident," says UEFA technical director Andy Roxburgh. "You will see a fascination for the ball, fluid movement, playfulness, co-operation, competition, challenge, commitment, celebrations, commiserations, enjoyment and an abundance of energy. Children love to play; to experience, through football, a joyous way of life.”

'Educate the coaches'
Category: Youth Soccer on 14 Nov 2006
"It is a very specialised role working with élite youth players and it is a must if you want your club and national team to produce good players. In the old days the talents came in from the streets, but today you have to develop them. They don't come by chance but rather by design."

Kaveh - What formation would you like to use for the U23 team?

Simoes – A winning formation. For me usually that is a 4 – 2- 2. I like to have 11 forwards when attacking and 11 defenders when defending. The formula is very simple. There is only one ball. If we hold on to it, control the ball, pass around, opponent can’t get the ball and can’t attack us. When the opponent has the ball, we need to pressure them and force them in giving it up and prepare for transition.

The " Cal North Club Lands Brazilian Youth Star" article is a satire
Category: Youth Soccer on 13 Nov 2006

Our satirical attempt to expose the  stupidities and vices of some soccer club's was misunderstood by a few people. To be clear - The Far Post Report story about "Brazilian Star to Norcal Club"  was a satire. We have had a few people respond angrily about the story and even refuse to forward the web site link as it promoted much that is wrong with soccer clubs. We apologize to anyone who was fooled but hope to continue to use this form of expression to expose the excesses of soccer in our area.

Satire is defined as: the use of humor, irony, exaggeration or ridicule to expose and ridicule people's stupidity or vices...

"In the last 15 years, the emphasis has been on physical and tactical development, not conceding goals and getting something from a set-play.
That's not entertainment. We have been relying on God-gifted players - Cruyff, Best, Maradona - and once every five years somebody else pops up.
Somebody [Rooney] popped up at Everton a couple of years ago. We want a development programme that gives us four or five Rooneys."

Winning! How Important Is It in Youth Sports?
Category: Youth Soccer on 12 Nov 2006
The answer to this question depends upon who is responding. For the young athletes themselves, the answer evidently is, "Not very." When a national sample of youth, aged 10 to 18 years, were asked why they participated in sports, "to win" was not among the top ten reasons for girls and was only seventh on the list for boys.
