Nor Cal Premier Soccer League (NCPSL) is proud to announce they are seeking to expand the cooperation between NorCal Premier Player Development Program and Vicenza Calcio. NorCal Premier, in August, hosted two representatives from Vicenza Calcio, a professional team based near Venice, Italy. Their visit in the first half of August 2006 included player identification for boys 1991 thru 1994 (see below for details) and culminated with more identification at the Santa Clara Sporting tournament, August, 12-14. As part of its overall mission statement, NCPSL focuses on individual player development. Bringing in a European soccer club to survey its talent is proof of its commitment to offer players an opportunity to demonstrate their talent and to find avenues for development. Their goal is to sustain an ongoing relationship with Vicenza Calcio, whereby talented players are identified at a young age and offered the opportunity to train in Italy at various times of the year. Coaches from Vicenza Calcio will monitor their development, and if deemed a strong fit, some players may have the chance to play professional soccer. History of Vicenza Calcio The Club was founded in 1902, and played mostly in Serie A. Its highlight was in 1977-78 when it finished in second place to Juventus in the league. Another well known player, Roberto Baggio, developed in the Vicenza Calcio system where he started in the youth program and eventually made it to its top-tier team. He played on Italy’s team when it reached the finals of the 1994 World Cup held in the US.
