Norcal Premiere League has announced plans to begin a U6
State Premiere Soccer League. The league will feature the clubs top 4,
5 and 6 year olds from around the state.
When questioned about the move to such an early age League Manager Benzema, from Lyon, told us, "The biggest reason is our name. We are a Premiere League with an E at the end. Our aim is to be a league for a players premiere year. Since neither the Norcal Premier League nor CYSA have taken care of these players - and their first year - we will. The top teams need to compete at the state level." The plan has produced a lot of criticism through out soccer circles. When asked about the criticism Benzema explained, "From a soccer standpoint, it is clear we need to train our players earlier and earlier. We know if a kid crawls before they walk, they are generally more coordinated. Well, we think if they play competitively before they can read books - they may read the game better. If they travel before they can carry their bags - they can travel further. If spend enough time in the car - they'll be better drivers. We have to concentrate on developing the complete player." When asked to comment on the plans a CVSA spokesperson explained, "Our position is clear. Any specialization with soccer before age 15 is deplorable. Where is the United Nations.........?"
