From the backyard soccer of Kansas to coaching a World Cup Qualifying Match!
Ian Mork, former Asst. Coach at Sonoma State University, current Sonoma County Sol U21 Head Coach and First Team Asst, and youth soccer educator has been hired by the Belize Football Federation to coach the "A" National Team during their 2010 World Cup Qualifying campaign. Belize has advanced to the next phase of the 2010 World Cup qualifying. They face Mexico, June 15th in Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas for Belize's home match (they do not have a stadium up to FIFA International standards). They then head to Monterrey on June 21st for the second match. The winner advances into group play. When asked about the job Ian said, " Its a great opportunity and I look forward to the challenge. I am happy to work with these players once again." Ian played and coached in Belize's first division before being hired as Technical Director, Assistant Coach for the "A" team and Head Coach of the U17, U20 and Belize's Olympic team. Before playing in Belize, Ian played professional indoor soccer and played top amateur soccer in Holland. He also played at Sangamon State in Springfield, Illinois, Johnson County Junior College, and University of Southern Colorado. We will sit down with Ian for an interview before he heads off to the tropical jungles of Belize!
