Volcanic Smog Threatens Far West Regional Championship Print E-mail
on 06 May 2008

It appears the USYSA Far West Regional may be postponed or canceled due to "Vog" or Volcanic smog.

Gas from Kilauea Volcano's newly opened vent is spewing double the usual amount of toxic gas.  The gas, sulfur dioxide, is wafting over the big island and enveloping the population in a toxic haze leading schools to keep children indoors during recess.

According to some experts in middle age art, normally Honolulu would not be too affected by Vog however the contingent of  USYSA officials expected to converge upon the area may be the primary problem. In these art expert's opinions, the amount of hot air expelled from these official's jabbering could create an updraft which would suck the Vog from 200 miles away - over the fields of play.

One expert may have stated, "If they would keep a few of the state administrative contingents from attending the event, we could probably end global warming and keep the Vog away."
