If you’re a US soccer fan, I’m going to ask that you take yourself back
to a dark time in our nation’s soccer history. Don’t worry, I feel your
pain. On June 22nd, 2006, Ghana ended any US hope of advancing to the
quarterfinals of the World Cup. While many US fans point to a dubious
penalty called against Oguchi Onyewu, it should be noted that the US
had only scored one goal before this game, and it was an own goal at
that. So it’s not as if the US had torn it up and was just the victim
of a bad call. We stunk, and we were deservedly going home.
