Development Academy Training Standards Pay Dividends for De Anza Force Offense Print E-mail
on 04 Oct 2008

It is crazy to think it took being accepted to the US Soccer Developmental Academy for a club like De Anza to train their U16 and U18 teams three times a week. How can a serious soccer club train any less?

From US Soccer Website:  In the second year under the guidelines of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, players at De Anza Force (Cupertino, Calif.) have seen their increased training pay off both individually and collectively.

All clubs, who are serious about player development, should train at least 3 times a week - U11's and above - if they are serious.

Knowing professional clubs world-wide are training their players 4 -7 times, ages U14 and above, should be a signal to our federation to create some serious requirements. Not only would this help the players and our nation's level of soccer, it would create a situation in which one could argue the best players should go to these clubs. At the present time, the biggest reason to switch to these clubs is their membership in the Academy.

Academy Clubs, where our National Team Players are supposed to now come, should be training 4 times a week or more. They can schedule 2 trainings on one day and one training on two days. For instance:

Tuesday: 4pm training, 5:30pm eat/study, 7pm training

Wednesday: 5:30pm training

Thursday: 5:30pm Training

Weekend: Game

In this manner, a player can still have a life but they can also begin to develop properly.
