The Bay Area's newest professional sports franchise unveiled its name, colors and logo Wednesday. And if FC Gold Pride sounds more like a youth team than an entry in the Women's Professional Soccer league, that is by design.
The team plans to market itself heavily to families, especially with the current economic landscape in which some professional sports might seem too pricey.
The folksy name also grew out of family debates of owners Brian and Nancy NeSmith, whose daughters Sarah and Amanda are getting equal ownership billing.
