Northern California's Players shine at US CLub Soccer ID2 Regional Camp Print E-mail
on 01 Nov 2006

Norcal Premier at ID2  29 players from Northern California attended the regional US Club ID2 program in Irvine, California October 6-9, 2006. US Club Soccer’s Regional ID2 program gathered together many of the region's top talent for four days of competition. The goal: to identify the top talent for inclusion in US soccer’s youth national team program.

In attendance, were 4 coaches, 15 boys and 14 girls most identified by Nor Cal Premier’s Player Development Program.

The players arrived Friday morning to check into the hotel. After checking-in, there was a meeting to introduce the staff, go over the itinerary, handout gear, and to make the teams. After the meeting, the players headed to the fields at the University of California-Irvine for their first training session. The players attended 3 training sessions and played 2 games. During these training sessions and games, the players were evaluated by Rene Miramontes and Tim Schultz from the national team staff. After the five sessions the players were evaluated by the coaches, and the top players were invited to participate in the All-Star game. The Northern California players did very well with 13 of the 15 boys and 10 of the 14 girls making the all-star game.

After the training sessions on the field, the players attended workshops, where they heard guest speakers. The guest speakers were Paul Caligiuri (US National Team, 110 Caps), Rene Miramontes (Region IV National staff coach), Tim Schultz ( U20 women’s coach), Eric Visser (USF men’s coach), Monica Rigali (Nike) and the Id2 coaching staff. The ID2 coaching staff consisted of: Christina Bell, Shawn Blakeman, Matt Bernard, Eric Dade, Ted Eck, Cle Kooiman, Chad McCarty, and Gabe Rood.

One of the primary goals of the US CLub ID2 Program is to eliminate the time and money spent on the local ODP and bring players directly to the US national team staff. In addition, the program is designed to support the clubs and work around their schedule.

At the state level, Norcal Premier Soccer runs the Player Development Program    (PDP) which allows clubs to identify their talented players and recommend them for the PDP pool. These players are given opportunities to train under such coaches as John Owens of Liverpool Football Club , Frans Hoek , formerly of Ajax Amsterdam and FC Barcelona , coaches and scouts from Vicenza Calcio, an Italian Professional Club  and the Norcal Premier Staff. The PDP program staff coaches are scouts for the US CLub ID2 Program which allows the program to offer training opportunities while scouting players for the ID2 Program.
