Development Academy Update: Schulz Academy Membership Termination Summary Schulz Academy’s membership in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Program has been terminated as of Thursday, April 23, 2009 due to their inability to complete the remainder of their 2008-09 Academy schedule per the terms of their 2008-09 Membership Agreement and the 2008-09 Academy Regulations. Development Academy Regulations, page 4, Section III, Article D, Point 6 Completion of Academy League Season: All Academy Teams are required to participate in the entire Academy League Season. Should a team fail to complete their schedule, they will sacrifice their performance bond and their club will lose its standing as an Academy Club. The Academy Regular Season will require travel, including air travel, during the Academy Season. Impact on Remaining Schulz Academy Games As stated in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Regulations, the remaining Schulz Academy division and conference games will not be played and will be recorded as 3-0 forfeits. The standings on Demosphere have been updated and there are no alterations to playoff or wildcard qualifications due to these forfeit results. Excerpt from Development Academy Regulations, page 2-3, Section II, Article D Withdrawal of a Club: In the event an Academy Team withdraws from the Academy League without finishing its scheduled games, the Academy Club shall forfeit its membership and performance bond, and the following regulations will take effect: (1) if at least half of the full schedule of games has been played, all resulting scores stand as validated by the Academy Staff, any unscheduled remaining games shall be recorded as a forfeit victory for the opponents; (2) if less than one-half of the full schedule of games has been played, these completed games will be deleted from the standings; (3) the Academy Staff may, at its discretion, reschedule any or all remaining games. The Spring Showcase games will be rescheduled, and will not be counted as forfeits. Ryan Mooney will follow up with the three teams affected to discuss the impact on their Spring Showcase schedule. Schulz Academy Players Schulz Academy players are no longer registered by U.S. Soccer and are free to participate in other organizations. Since the deadline for full-time player adds has already passed and Schulz Academy players are not eligible as developmental players with another club, these players are not eligible to participate on another Academy team in the 2008-09 season. It is recommended that any club interested in picking up a Schulz Academy player for a non-Academy team in 2008-09 should comply with the team formation rules of the local organization member. |
