US Club Soccer announces
id2 Regional Training Camp dates and locations

CHARLESTON, S.C. (July 23, 2010) – US Club Soccer has announced the dates and locations for the 2010 id2 Regional Training Camps, to be held at sites around the country. Currently in its seventh year as US Club Soccer’s player identification and development program, the id2 program now includes boys born in 1997-98 and girls born in 1994-97.

The 2010 id2 Regional Training Camps for 1997-98 boys and 1996-97 girls are scheduled for:
Sept. 30-Oct. 3 in Zarephath, N.J.
Nov. 11-14 in the Dallas area
Dec. 9-12 in the Phoenix area

id2 Regional Training Camps will be returning to the familiar areas of Zarephath, N.J., Dallas and Phoenix. A total of more than 300 players will participate in Regional Training Camps in the fall of 2010.

“The id2 Regional Training Camps are a great opportunity for players to train with and compete against the best players in their age groups,” said id2 Boys’ Program Director Gerry McKeown, who is also a U.S. U-15 Boys’ National Team assistant coach. “The camps also give us the chance to select the team that will take part in the National Selection International Tour, which provides an outstanding experience for all of the players involved.”

“We’re very excited for the 2010 id2 Regional Training Camps because they create an environment in which elite players can continue to work on their skills,” said id2 Girls’ Program Director Rory Dames. “The id2 program continues to grow and that is helping to identify and produce better players all over the country as these players return to their teams and raise the level of play.”

id2 Regional Training Camps are invitation-only events that bring together the nation’s top boys’ and girls’ youth players for four days of training, competition and evaluation. Invitations are sent after an extensive scouting and recommendation program in which players throughout the country are identified in their own environment as they compete with their club teams.

Player recommendations are being accepted; please use the Player Recommendation Form on the id2 Web page on usclubsoccer.org. Invitations will be extended to qualified players with national team potential starting in late July.

In addition, the id2 National Training Camp for 1994-95 girls will be held with the ECNL in early 2011.

For the second successive year, a team of the best 18 boys from the fall id2 Regional Training Camps will have the opportunity to experience the day-to-day culture of some of the world’s most well-known professional clubs while also improving themselves via high-level training and game competition as part of the 2011 id2 National Selection International Tour. Details for the 2011 trip will be announced soon; click here for information and highlights from the 2010 id2 National Selection International Tour.

About id2:  [id2 Fact Sheet]
Established in 2004, US Club Soccer’s id2 national identification and development program provides an ongoing opportunity for the country’s top youth talent to be identified and developed for possible inclusion in U.S. Soccer’s National Team programs.

Players are included in the id2 player pool as a result of an extensive scouting and recommendation program in which players throughout the country are identified in their own familiar training and game environment as they compete with their club teams. Affiliated and unaffiliated players are able to be recommended, and there is no cost to the player to be recommended or scouted for the id2 program.

From this pool, qualified players with National Team potential are invited to an id2 Training Camp, which bring together the nation’s top male and female youth players for four days of competition, evaluation and fun.

U.S. Soccer National Team staff as well as other elite coaches and players attend id2 Training Camps. In addition to the on-field sessions, id2 Training Camps feature guest speakers, lectures/classroom sessions and other offerings, which make for a complete experience.

The only cost to players selected for an id2 Training Camp is travel to and from the venue. Lodging, meals and training gear are provided by US Club Soccer and Nike.

Aided by their time at US Club Soccer’s id2 Training Camps, numerous attendees of past camps have advanced into U.S. Soccer’s National Team programs.

The inaugural id2 National Selection International Tour took place in February 2010, which provides the best 18 boys from the fall id2 Regional Training Camps the opportunity to play games against top international competition, conduct training sessions and experience the day-to-day culture of some of the world’s most well-known professional clubs.

Also recently introduced was an id2 National Training Camp for girls, which complements the fall id2 Regional Training Camps with expanded age groups.

Those interested are able to visit the usclubsoccer.org/id2 for more information on the organization’s national identification and development program.
