Proving once again that they occupy the cutting edge of soccer and psychology, CYSA has launched its " Weeding not Seeding" program. It seems the idea is to weed many of the best teams out of the state cup as early as possible - by having them play against other top teams - in the early rounds. In an exclusive interview with the CYSA magazine, the NearPostReport, State Cup spokesperson, Kent Getitright clarified the new policy for soccer fans everywhere, " With our method of " Weeding not Seeding" we actually end many dreams of winning state cup right off the bat....Take the U14 Boys Bracket M... we are especially proud of this group - Santa Clara Sporting, Cal Odyessy and Lobitos in a first round group.. a real group of death....all of them ranked in the top ten - for all of Northern California." He continued," Most events would seed these teams and place them in different groups but we don't... we think this is inhumane because although all of these teams could win state cup only one will.....with seeding you keep these players and these teams dreaming for weeks...with weeding we get that idea out of their head on weekend one....sometimes we can even do it with one game......Game #1 Group M - Cal Odyessy versus Santa Clara Sporting.....why that's arguably one versus two...at the very least, its two of the top five teams...." When asked why they allow a lesser team to dream by giving them an easy draw Kent Getitright scoffed, "This is why we are in charge of your soccer playing events. Do you think one of the lesser seeds really believe they can win the thing? Not even those weaker teams who make it deep into the cup, because of an easy draw, dream of that .....so if....I mean when they finally lose in the later rounds....they aren't as disappointed as a top seed would be if they went out in the later rounds.....that's why we weed the top teams out early on....yep its more humane. Plus it gives them a chance to work on the CYSA swerve and attend those ODP state teams trainings which conflict with the players state cup games.....once the top teams are eliminated so are many of our problems.....cause the coaches are not so fixated on the state cup anymore." He continued, " Some of those folks out there might like to watch these top teams try and make it to the final. I know how those professional coaches think......They enjoy watching these boys and girls build up their hopes before they are dashed upon the fields of battle.....we are more humane ..... that's why we "We weed and seed"." When asked about the teams who hope to go to a Surf Cup or a Disney Event based on their state cup results, he asked," What's state cup got to do with a surfing contest....What's it got to do with Mickey Mouse....we're a soccerball game played with toe pokes and headers not surf boards and cotton candy!" Suddenly Kent Getitright exclaimed,"Excuse me.... I gotta go....You see that elderly guy with the white cane cutting through the coaching area...... I think he's passing coaching secrets to the coach......I gotta get him before the warm up ends!"
